Bem-vindos ao sudeste do Brasil! The southeastern states of Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo are home to about a third of Brazil's population and are responsible for over half of the nation's GDP. Accents in the southeast vary immensely depending on the state, but in this course we will focus most on the local accents found around the São Paulo metropolitan area and countryside. São Paulo is the most populous Brazilian state with over 40 million inhabitants, half of whom live in the Greater São Paulo area surrounding the capital city.
Using the links below or the dropdown menu at the top of this page, navigate to each Southeast vocabulary section. (Feel free to peruse the Northeast section, but note that the vocabulary and accents will be slightly different.) We designed this course so you could access, learn, and review different key topics in the order you see fit. However, we strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself the Introductions section first. On each vocabulary section's page, you'll find a series of sub-sections with specific word lists and flashcards, and some vocabulary sections feature a mock conversation.
